Affordable villa holidays in Portugal 'an option' this year |
Travellers taking villa holidays in Portugal and Spain this year could find that the eurozone is not as expensive as many people expect, according to new research by the Post Office.
The organisation said that many popular hotspots in eurozone countries are cutting prices to mitigate the effect of the strong euro and to continue attracting visitors.
In the 2009 Post Office Holiday Costs report, the Iberian countries were among the top ten most affordable destinations for 2009, which will be welcome news to people planning villa holidays in Portugal and Spain.
Sarah Munro, head of travel services for the Post Office, said: "The eurozone has taken a bashing this year but our survey suggests that tourist outlets in many resorts are taking dramatic steps to encourage tourists.
"Despite the weak pound, this means that UK tourists who shop carefully could find that they get more than expected for their money."
Travellers planning villa holidays in Portugal can fly directly to Faro in order to reach hotspots in the Algarve, while those taking villa holidays in Spain can travel to destinations including Malaga and Alicante.
