Birmingham airport popular again in September |
People jetting off on villa holidays and other trips once again helped Birmingham airport achieve an increase in passenger figures in September, it has been announced.
The airport confirmed that it handled 984,245 passengers during the month, an increase of 1.5 per cent on the year before.
Services to destinations in the EU carried 14.5 per cent more passengers, while flights to the Republic of Ireland saw a 7.2 per cent increase in traffic.
More people jetted off from Birmingham to a number of destinations that are popular for villa holidays, including Marseille, which saw a 53 per cent increase in passengers, Murcia (five per cent) and Faro (three per cent).
Peter Vella, the airport's business development director, said: "September saw an increase in passengers travelling through the airport compared against the same month last year, which again reaffirms the reputation of Birmingham airport as the region's gateway to the world.
"With the airport celebrating its busiest ever month in August and with a number of exciting new routes launching in the coming weeks and months, there has never been a better time for people to fly from their local airport."
People travelling from Birmingham airport can choose from holiday destinations including Rome, Malaga, Paphos and Nice.
