Books 'an essential holiday item' |
Many people setting off on villa holidays in Italy and other getaways could not do so without having a good book to hand, according to a new survey.
Flight search engine Skyscanner carried out a poll which found that 24 per cent of people consider books the most important item to take with them on holiday.
More than a fifth (22 per cent) said that their mp3 player is an essential travel accessory, while perfume or deodorant (14 per cent) and a laptop or digital assistant (ten per cent) are also important parts of many villa holidays.
Rob Innes, head of marketing at Skyscanner, said: "The humble paperback is the ultimate travel accessory.
"It's a low cost, no-tech form of entertainment that you can take anywhere from the beach to the bar. You don't need to worry about books getting lost, stolen or damaged, or that your battery will die mid-flight."
Skyscanner recently released figures showing that Rome, a highly popular destination for villa holidays in Italy, is among the top ten flight destinations for the forthcoming Easter holiday, along with Malaga, Alicante, Faro and others.
