Brits 'will make sacrifices to take villa holidays'
Villa holidays in France and other overseas getaways have become so important to British people that they are willing to cut back on other luxuries to pay for them, according to research.

Low-cost airline easyJet carried out a survey which found that 88 per cent of Brits would give up their morning takeaway coffee to pay for a holiday and 72 per cent would sacrifice nights out.

Nearly two thirds (63 per cent) of respondents said they would reduce the amount they spent on clothes to free up some funds for an overseas break.

Of the people polled by easyJet, 40 per cent said they had already booked their villa holidays in France and other trips for the summer, while 68 per cent said they had no intention of giving up their annual getaway this year.

Paul Simmons, the airline's UK general manager, said: "People are definitely assessing their spending habits and looking at ways to make their pennies go further in 2009.

"The survey demonstrates that people are cutting back on everyday 'luxuries' to ensure they can still fund their annual summer holiday."

EasyJet offered a new travel option for people planning villa holidays in France this year when it launched new flights to Bordeaux in the south-west from Liverpool.
