Brittany to host 'world first exhibition' |
The town of Rennes in Brittany is to host an exhibition this year that is thought to be the first of its kind in the world.
A museum display dedicated entirely to the legend of King Arthur will be held in the Champs Libres, a cultural hub including a library and a science museum, from July 15th.
Holidaymakers staying in villas in France will be able to visit the show, which has been nominated as an 'exhibition of national interest' by the ministry of culture, until January 4th next year.
The exhibition will set out to explore the life of King Arthur and go beyond the historical background by using ancient sources to illustrate the development of a mythical character.
More than 200 display pieces linked to Arthur and his fabled adventures will be included in the exhibition, ranging from manuscripts and rare books to pieces of art and film posters that illustrate the cultural significance of the Arthurian legends.
One of the highlights of the display is one of the oldest illustrated manuscripts of the stories of the Round Table, which has been restored by the Rennes Metropolitan Library.
