Cash secured to improve Costa del Sol beaches |
People enjoying villa holidays on the Costa del Sol may soon notice an improvement in the area's famous beaches following a cash injection to improve certain coastal areas.
The local government, the Junta de Andalucia, announced that it would invest some 6.9 million (£5.4 million) in the development of facilities, Euro Weekly News reports.
This financing will be used to improve sanitation, build new beach bars and purchase more buoys.
Safety will be one of the main focuses of the investment, with 30 new rescue boats set to operate offshore during the peak summer season.
Luciano Alonso, the local councillor in charge of tourism, said the financing was based on the fact that 60 per cent of the people who visit Andalucia come to the area to enjoy its sun, sea and sand.
The region's beaches are one of the main reasons that many people take villa holidays on the Costa del Sol, with 160km of Mediterranean coastline to be explored along the famous stretch of land.
