Celebrate the flood festival in Paphos |
Holidaymakers staying in villas in Cyprus in June will be able to join in the celebrations as the island hosts the Festival of the Flood. This event, also known as Kataklysmos, is a Greek Orthodox festival that focuses primarily on water and marks the day of the Holy Spirit. Locations all around Cyprus get into the spirit of the occasion, with coastal cities organising concerts and games near the waterfront. Inland towns also adhere to the aquatic theme, with children taking advantage of the festival to pick up their water pistols and give each other a soaking. This year the Flood Festival will be held between June 14th and 16th, 50 days after Greek Orthodox Easter, an occasion that is also known as the day of the Holy Spirit as it commemorates the descent of the Holy Ghost to the Apostles. In Paphos, the festivities take place near the castle and the harbour, where visitors will be able to enjoy concerts, dance groups and water sport competitions.
