Costa Blanca town to host windsurfing championship |
Brits considering villa holidays on the Costa Blanca next year may be even more tempted to visit in order to see the Formula World Windsurfing Championships.
The 2009 outing of this major watersport event will be held in the coastal town of Santa Pola, the Euro Weekly News reports.
Vicente German Martinez, president of the Santa Pola Windsurfing Club, celebrated the town's choice as the location for the contest, saying that it highlighted how popular windsurfing has become in Spain.
The championship is likely to be a major event on the Costa Blanca, with its visitors set to include Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of the Spanish royal family.
According to Mr Martinez, the fact that the prince and princess will be attending rather than any older members of the royal family shows the "youthful" appeal of the event.
The 2008 Formula World Windsurfing Championships provided some entertainment for people on villa holidays when it was held in the Algarve town of Portimao, which will soon be hosting the launch of the Global Ocean Race.
