Cyprus 'a world leader in tourism' |
The popularity of villa holidays and other trips to Cyprus has made the island one of the world's leading tourist destinations, an industry representative has claimed.
Marios Christodoulou of Love Cyprus, a member of the Association of National Tourist Office Representatives, said that the island has coped well with modernisation and now caters for all consumer markets.
He also predicted that the destination's success is set to continue over coming years.
"Cyprus has always had a good reputation and as time has gone on the country had developed into one of the most popular tourism destinations in the world," Mr Christodoulou said.
"Cyprus is getting more and more popular as it is undergoing increasing development for tourism and special interest tourism."
Many people on villa holidays in Cyprus take advantage of the island's beaches, 52 of which have been awarded Blue Flag status.
There are also plenty of sports and activities that tourists can take part in, including cycling, nature walking, golfing and diving.
