Cyprus airport bus plans 'to go ahead' |
People planning villa holidays in Cyprus will be interested to hear that controversial plans for a new bus service from Larnaca airport are set to go ahead.
The proposals for a bus connection between Larnaca airport and major cities in Cyprus proved contentious with local taxi drivers, who said that a new public transport service would effectively put them out of business.
Drivers have threatened to take action to block the new service, which is expected to charge passengers 5 (£4).
A taxi from Larnaca airport to Nicosia, the capital city of Cyprus, costs around 50, reports the Cyprus Mail.
The government of Cyprus has remained firm on its decision to launch the new bus service, which is set to operate every 30 minutes.
Taxi drivers have wavered in their opposition to the plans between rejecting them entirely and suggesting that buses could run every three hours.
Many people taking villa holidays in Cyprus will fly into Larnaca, as the city is home to the island's major international airport.
