Cyprus handles more flights in 2007 |
The appeal of villa holidays in Cyprus and other travel options on the Mediterranean island led to air traffic levels climbing by some 12 per cent in 2007, according to a new report.
As well as reviewing the strength of the industry last year, Eurocontrol, the EU's body for air safety, predicted that air traffic would continue to increase in 2008, by some 12.2 per cent, the Cyprus Mail reports.
Over the next five years, the island's air traffic levels are expected to grow at a steady average rate of five per cent.
The report stressed the possibility that demand for flights to and from Cyprus could be strong enough to lead the government to invest in new routes and services.
"Capacity has increased, but not in line with the traffic demand and further capacity," Eurocontrol said. "Enhancement actions including increased sector opening during busy hours will be needed to meet demand."
People staying in villas in Cyprus can take advantage of the island's variety of natural aspects, with treks in the mountains an option for adventurous travellers, as well as days on the beach for people looking for relaxation.
