Cyprus tourism hopes for growth |
People on villa holidays in Cyprus could soon be presented with new experiences and opportunities as the island targets development in its tourism industry.
Haris Loizides, president of the Cyprus Hotel Association, said the Mediterranean island had to adjust in order to keep up with the volatile and competitive global tourism industry, the Cyprus Mail reports.
Mr Loizides was speaking at the Travel and Tourism Symposium in Nicosia this week.
He said: "We are firm believers in learning from other tourist destinations and must accelerate our slow general pace in Cyprus.
"There is an urgent need for an action-orientated approach with a sense of accountability in order for our strategic plan to be implemented with any success."
Tourism in Cyprus has gone through a difficult phase over the past six or seven years and Mr Loizides said it was necessary to listen to the views of "experienced and discerning travellers" to enable a recovery from this period.
