Cyprus tourist season prepares for launch |
People planning villa holidays in Cyprus this year will be happy to hear the announcement that the island's tourism season is ready to open.
Labour minister Soteroulla Charalambous said that the summer tourism timetable will begin on March 14th.
Last year's decrees covering opening hours, designated tourist areas and holidays were renewed, with the only difference from last year being a season start date two weeks earlier than that of 2007.
This is a result of the fact that Easter is being celebrated on March 23rd this year, which is expected to bring an increase in tourist activity.
The end date of the tourist season, October 21st, will be the same as normal.
Tourism is one of the most important sectors in the Cyprus economy and it is hoped that the country's accession to the EU this year will make it even more appealing and accessible for travellers.
The island's most popular locations with visitors include Paphos, Larnaca and Limassol.
