Dordogne visitors treated to sweet celebration |
People staying in villas in France and other holidaymakers were treated to a charming event in the country's Dordogne region this month.
Every May the small town of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne hosts the Strawberry Festival, a tribute to the unique flavour and appeal of the sweet summer fruit.
Held on May 11th, the event included a variety of themed events and fairs to keep visitors entertained.
Every year the festival holds markets selling fruit-inspired items, local delicacies and of course plenty of strawberries.
Other celebrations, fairs and competitions provided entertainment until the festival's main event the baking of an enormous strawberry tart that is marvelled over before being swiftly consumed by festivalgoers.
The Dordogne is a region of south-west France that is named after the river that runs through it.
It is famous for its picturesque rural landscapes and the hundreds of castles to which it is home, including Chateau de Beynac, which occupies a dramatic cliff-top location.
