EasyJet celebrates 10 years of Stansted services |
Low-fares airline easyJet today (May 21st) celebrated ten years since it began carrying people on villa holidays and other trips around Europe from London Stansted airport.
The first easyJet service from Stansted, which flew to Rome on May 21st 1988, was operated under the brand name Go, which was incorporated into the main easyJet business in August 2002.
Holidaymakers in the south-east showed strong demand for easyJet's services from Stansted over the years, enabling the airline to add a number of new destinations from the airport.
Over the past decade, easyJet has carried more than 39 million passengers to 26 European and domestic destinations.
It currently flies to a number of locations that are popular for villa holidays, including Alicante, Faro, Mallorca, Marseille and Pisa.
David Osborne, easyJet's UK general manager, said that the travel industry has changed "dramatically" over the past ten years.
He added: "I am proud that easyJet has played such a pivotal role in uniting Europe and enhancing people's lives as well as generating a huge economic benefit to the local community."
