Experience La Pomme d'Orange in Brittany |
Brits taking villa holidays in Brittany during the Christmas period will have a chance to experience one of the province's many quaint and charming traditions.
The festival of La Pomme d'Orange will take place in the town of Peillac from December 1st until January 6th.
Those who decide to pay a visit to Peillac during their villa holidays will be entertained by the telling of fairy stories and Christmas tales by actors, who will perform in the street to the accompaniment of local music.
La Pomme d'Orange, which is devoted to the theme of storytelling and children's tales, takes its name from the Christmas tradition of placing oranges or pieces of coal in stockings, with the fruit given to youngsters who have behaved well and the coal given to naughty children.
Every year the mayor of Peillac ceremonially hands out hundreds of oranges to reward the residents of the town for their good behaviour.
One of the highlights of the festival, which people taking villa holidays are sure to enjoy, is the creation of a giant almond tart by the local bakery, which will be filled with some lucky figurines known locally as 'feves'.
