France pays tribute to the raspberry |
Travellers enjoying villa holidays in the Dordogne region of France next month may be interested in joining in with celebrations of the humble raspberry.
A festival to pay tribute to the tasty fruit and everything associated with it will take place in the Limousin village of Conceze on July 13th.
The event, called la Fete de la Framboise for those who fancy trying out the local language, is set to welcome around 6,000 people who will meet local raspberry producers and tour stalls selling a bewildering array of products.
Conceze raspberries are used in a variety of delicacies, from veal, duck and snails cooked in raspberry vinegar to peach melbas, tarts, coulis and terrines.
The small, usually sleepy village will be brought to life by street entertainers and other activities often related to food and drink.
Conceze is an attractive town for people on villa holidays to visit at any time of the year, with a quaint rural atmosphere and sights including a picturesque 12th century church.
