Gastro-travel becoming popular |
Britons wanting to spice things up a little are heading off to more and more exotic places around the world to see the sights and taste the food.
A survey by travel website Expedia.co.uk found that Brits are heading to places as far away as Colombia to taste the local coffee and Italy to taste the local ham.
Communications director of Expedia, Alison Couper, said: "The research shows that Brits are breaking away from the stereotypical PG Tips and Marmite food staples while on holiday, and becoming more dedicated to immersing themselves in the home-grown local cuisine."
Other places of interest for hungry travellers includes Roquefort in southern France for its cheese and Kalamata in Greece for its guess what - olives.
Those staying in the UK were found to visit the popular destinations of Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire for its pork pies and Herefordshire for its exceptional cider.
