Holiday destinations help Birmingham break records |
Birmingham airport experienced record passenger figures in the month of April, partly as a result of new flights to a number of destinations that are popular for villa holidays.
A total of 712,476 people passed through Birmingham in April, smashing the previous highest figure recorded in the month.
People staying in villas in Italy and Spain were among those who boosted the airport's figures after Ryanair launched new flights to Pisa and Girona.
Joe Kelly, the acting managing director at Birmingham, said: "These figures represent even more good news for the airport and we are delighted that it is yet another record-breaking month.
"With new routes launched to
Girona and Pisa with Ryanair during April, passengers travelling from their local airport continue to have an ever-increasing range of destinations to choose from."
Routes to destinations within the EU were among the most popular from Birmingham in April, with a 10.9 per cent year-on-year increase in passenger traffic.
Scheduled services that experienced growth in the month included flights to the Cyprus villa holiday hotspots of Paphos and Larnaca.
