Holiday spots boost EMA figures |
Nottingham East Midlands Airport (EMA) has announced record passenger figures for the month of May, with a number of destinations that are popular for villa holidays contributing to the growth.
There were two bank holiday weekends in May and the most popular destinations during these periods were Palma on the island of Mallorca and the Spanish hotspots of Alicante and Malaga, with the Algarve hotspot of Faro also appearing in the top five.
Some 65,000 people travelled from EMA on the first holiday weekend in May and another 77,000 embarked on villa holidays and other trips over the spring bank holiday period.
A total of 534,690 passengers flew from EMA in May, making it the only month in the airport's history to bring more than half a million travellers through the gateway.
Airport managing director Penny Coates said: "This is a remarkable achievement given the current industry trends.
"It's evidence that passengers choosing to fly from East Midlands appreciate the convenience, comfort and ease that we offer to get their journey off to a great start."
