Holidays 'now seen as a necessity' |
British people have become so accustomed to their regular villa holidays and other trips that they now see them as a necessity rather than a luxury, it has been claimed.
Financial constraints in the UK and across the world have led to many people cutting back on spending.
A recent survey in America found that 79 per cent of travellers have altered holiday plans as a result of the country's economic problems.
According to a spokesperson for the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), similar issues are facing British holidaymakers, but most are still determined to take their annual break.
"I think people are definitely concerned but people are working very hard these days and they see a nice holiday as a necessity rather than a luxury," the representative said.
"People are working longer hours, paying more tax and paying out an awful lot so a holiday is one thing we will take come hell or high water."
