Italy celebrates relaxed pace of life
One of the things that people staying in Tuscany villas can look forward to is a relaxed pace of living – a characteristic of Italian life that the country celebrated with laid-back enthusiasm recently.

Visitors and residents in Italy marked 'world slow day' with a number of events this week, including the second annual 'slow marathon' in Rome, United Press International reports.

Participants were challenged to walk 656 feet without stopping in no less than an hour in 27 minutes.

In other parts of the country, people walking through busy city centres were given poems and pedestrians thought to be walking too fast were given 'citations' encouraging them to slow down and enjoy their surroundings.

Bruno Contigiani, president of the Art of Living Slowly association, which founded world slow day two years ago, said it was an opportunity to enjoy one's lifestyle and environment, an ambition that is easily realised in the picturesque surrounds of Italy.

'It's an occasion to take a little time for yourself and remember that if we're always rushing, we end up taking the wrong road,' he said.

Taking some time to relax is the reason that many people take villa holidays in Tuscany, as the region is renowned for its rustic, natural beauty and is home to six Unesco-protected locations.
