Major installation adds to spectacle of Rome |
Visitors to Rome will be able to take in an impressive sight at the Museo delle Mura over the coming weeks.
Huang Rui, a Chinese avant-garde artist, created a major site-specific installation at the museum, which people on villa holidays in Rome will be able to see until June 8th.
Huang gained his inspiration from the iconic buildings and architectural styles of the Italian capital.
The installation is made of 2,008 bricks taken from Beijing's 'hutong' neighbourhoods, old areas that were earmarked for demolition to create new developments for the Olympic Games.
Each brick features a western numeral, from 1 to 2008, as well as a date from the Chinese calendar and the name of the emperor of that time.
The constituent parts of the installation are also marked with zodiac signs and animal spirits.
As well as providing an impressive sight for resident and visitors in Rome, the artistic creation is intended to explore themes related to time, and how it is treated differently in the east and the west.
