Malaga beaches treated to fresh layer of sand
Authorities in the Costa del Sol city of Malaga are set to lay a new layer of sand on the tourist location's beaches.

The Coastal Authority plans to deposit 200,000 cubic metres of sand on beaches, which will be in place in time for the influx of people staying in Costa del Sol villas this Easter.

Work got underway on February 25th following storms and high winds earlier in the month, which cleared a large amount of sand off beachfronts, Typically Spanish reports.

La Caleta beach in Malaga City was the first location treated to a new layer of sand, followed by Torrox – another beach in Malaga – and the Marbella locations of Fontanilla and Casablanca.

Beaches in Estepona, Benalmadena, Chilches and Lagos are also set to receive a makeover before the Easter rush.

The initiative is expected to cost some €12 million (£9.2 million), highlighting the importance of tourism in Malaga's local economy.
