New La Liga season to kick off |
Sports fans planning villa holidays in Spain will soon have a multitude of options to choose from if they want to sample the country's football culture as the 2008-09 La Liga season prepares to get underway.
There are plenty of top-flight sides located in Spain's popular holiday regions, including Malaga on the Costa del Sol, Barcelona and Espanyol on the Costa Brava and Mallorca in the Balearics.
The season will get underway on August 31st with fixtures including a home game for Espanyol against Valladolid.
Football fans staying in Costa del Sol villas will be able to see Malaga play Athletic Bilbao on September 14th, with the next home game for the south coast side coming on September 24th, when they will face Valencia.
Those planning trips to the Balearic islands should mark out October 26th in their diaries, when Mallorca will be taking on Espanyol, followed by December 21st, when Sevilla will be the visitors.
Barcelona had a hugely disappointing season last year, eventually finishing third, 18 points behind their bitter rivals Real Madrid.
Stand-out home fixtures for the Catalan giants this year include games against Atletico Madrid on October 5th, Valencia on December 7th and reigning champions Real Madrid on December 14th.
