New animal park opens in Valencia |
People staying in Costa Blanca villas this year will have a new attraction nearby following the opening of Bioparc Valencia.
The park recreates varying African landscapes and environments and is home to lions, pygmy hippos, lemurs and many other species.
Three different ecosystems have been set up at Bioparc Valencia: African savannah, equatorial Africa and Madagascar.
Occupying more than 80,000 square metres in the dried-up Turia riverbed, the park provides an ideal environment for more than 4,000 animals in total.
As well as being an exciting new attraction for people on villa holidays in Spain and other visitors, the park will serve as an important conservation and education project designed to protect endangered species and boost public awareness of ecological issues.
To ensure that it has a minimal impact on the environment, the park will use rainwater that has been treated and heated with solar panels to fill its artificial lakes and rivers.
Animals are also made to feel as comfortable as possible with camouflaged natural barriers that create a sense of separation between the wildlife and the people but still allow visitors to see the animals clearly.
