New museum to chart history of Limassol |
People on villa holidays in Cyprus will soon be able to learn all about the history of Limassol at a new museum set to be opened in the town.
The History Museum will be situated at the building formerly used as the residence of the district administrator, reports the Cyprus Mail.
Extensive renovations and refurbishments will be carried out on the site before the museum opens its doors to locals and visitors by April 2009.
Limassol mayor Andreas Christou said that the museum represented "the realisation of a dream of every Limassolian".
"This museum will shed light on unknown aspects that contributed to the creation of a significant town in the eastern Mediterranean," he added.
The museum will comprise three different areas the town records department, the main museum and a research centre. These zones will offer visitors a better understanding of how Limassol developed from a small hamlet into a thriving seaside town.
People on villa holidays in Cyprus can see a number of interesting sights in Limassol, including its extensive coastal front and its medieval castle.
