Public buildings improved in Cyprus |
People on villa holidays in Cyprus could soon benefit from a number of improvements to public buildings around the island.
The Cyprus Museum, the Supreme Court and the Prodromos Street post office in Nicosia were among 27 buildings that were the subject of work to make them more resistant to earthquakes, the Cyprus Mail reports.
Another 91 buildings were earmarked for improvement work in the medium term and 57 were declared safe in their current state.
The buildings surveyed for their safety were all in Nicosia, Cyprus' capital and largest city, and Paphos, one of the island's most popular tourist locations.
People on villa holidays in Cyprus can see a variety of architectural highlights, old and new, in Paphos, including a castle that was originally built as a Byzantine fort to protect the harbour.
The city is also home to the Tombs of the Kings, a series of underground vaults and caves that were thought to have been used as burial sites for aristocrats and other high-profile figures in ancient times.
