Rome celebrates Via Giulia |
People enjoying villa holidays in Rome this year will be able to join in with the city's celebrations of one of its most famous thoroughfares, Via Giulia.
This street was first established in 1508, meaning that this year marks its 500th anniversary.
To celebrate the occasion, there will be a number of events held in the surrounding area of Rome, including conferences relating to the history, art and culture of the early 16th century.
This was a significant period in Rome as it was the time of the Renaissance and Via Giulia is celebrated for the fact that it was one of the first major urban planning projects in the Italian capital at this time.
Other events that visitors will be able to enjoy around Via Giulia this year include classical music concerts, exhibitions of painting and sacred art, processions, theatre performances and light shows.
Guided tours are available for as little as 5 (£3.90) and take visitors to such stunning locations as Piazza dell'Oro, Palazzo Sacchetti and the Church of Santa Maria dei Senesi.
