Rome hosts archaeological tours |
Holidaymakers staying in villas in Italy who make the trip to Rome this year will be able to take part in a special series of archaeological tours.
The excursions, which take visitors under the Basilica of St John Lateran, will be available on the first Saturday of every month until December 6th.
These tours take in a number of areas of archaeological significance, including the remains of an ancient frescoed house.
Explorers will also set eyes on the 'Castra of the Equites Singulares', a location that once served as a barracks where the emperor's horseback bodyguards resided.
Another highlight of the trip is a visit to an imperial baths complex under the Lateran Baptistery.
People on villa holidays who are interested in taking part in one of these excursions, which cost 12 (£9.50), will be taken around in groups of up to 30 people.
