Saint's procession to weave through Brittany town |
People enjoying villa holidays in Brittany in May could be treated to quite a sight as a procession makes its way through a local town.
The small village of Treguier pays homage to Saint Yves on May 17th and 18th with an event involving some 10,000 people.
Participants dress in black and red ermine-trimmed robes and walk through streets decorated with yellow and gold flags.
The parade to honour Saint Yves is one of Brittany's major historical events and also includes a mass, attended by huge numbers of people, in Treguier's church.
Treguier is a port town in the Cotes-d'Amor area of Brittany, which can provide an ideal location for a day-trip for people enjoying villa holidays in France.
It boasts sights including the Cathedral St Tugdual and a statue of Ernest Renan, a French philosopher and writer who was well known for his love of Brittany, his native province.
Brittany itself offers a number of locations for visitors to explore, including Carnac, a village that is known for its collection of megalithic stones as well as its beaches.
