Sample some free culture on villa holidays in Italy |
The Nuit des Musees cultural initiative will once again be held this year, giving people on villa holidays in Italy and other countries the opportunity to attend a number of museums for free.
Set to celebrate its fifth anniversary in 2009, Nuit des Musees will take place on the evening of May 16th.
Participating museums and galleries open their doors at dusk and in many cases offer free entry until the early hours of the morning.
Travellers staying in holiday villas in Tuscany will be able to visit one of the region's most famous institutions, the Galleria dell'Accademia, as part of Nuit des Musees, while visitors to Rome can head to Casa di Goethe.
People taking villa holidays in Spain next month will also be able to enjoy some free culture at the Museu Picasso in Barcelona and the Museo de la Ciudad in Murcia.
According to recent research by the Art Newspaper, Florence's Galleria degli Uffizi and Galleria dell'Accademia both welcomed more than 1.2 million visitors in 2008.
