See an acclaimed exhibition on villa holidays in Portugal |
Villa holidays in Portugal will offer travellers the opportunity to take a day-trip to Lisbon this summer to see an acclaimed exhibition.
A display of over 250 artefacts from the 16th and 17th centuries, which has previously been exhibited at the prestigious Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, will be open at the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga from July 9th to October 11th.
Travellers staying in holiday villas in the Algarve can either set off on an organised day-trip to Lisbon to visit the exhibition or hire a car and make the drive north to the capital city.
The exhibition, which is called Encompassing the Globe: Portugal and the World in the 16th and 17th centuries, features a number of historically significant items borrowed from private collections around the world.
Highlights include rare 16th century maps created by Portuguese and Florentine cartographers, hunting horns and salt cellars carved in Africa and terracotta statues from Brazil.
People taking villa holidays in Portugal may also be tempted to pay a visit to Lisbon to see the city's sights, such as the Castelo de Sao Jorge and the monument of Belem.
