See the missing part of the 'Renaissance triad' |
People on villa holidays in Rome this summer will be able to explore an exhibition dedicated to Antonio Allegri, also known as Correggio.
Along with Raphael and Michelangelo, Correggio formed the group known as the 'Renaissance triad', but is the only one of these artists who has never been the subject of a comprehensive exhibition.
Rome's Borghese Gallery rectified this fact with an exhibition that opened on May 22nd and will run until September 14th.
This display is the third of the Ten Great Exhibitions series organised by the special superintendent of Rome Museums and the director of the Borghese Gallery.
The exhibition includes a number of Correggio's most revered works and looks at the question of why the artist does not occupy a place in art history similar to that of his contemporaries Michelangelo and Raphael.
Art lovers on villa holidays in Rome will find the Borghese Gallery in the Villa Borghese gardens in the heart of the historic city.
