Spanish beachgoers to get free fruit |
People taking villa holidays in Spain could soon be enjoying free fruit on some of the country's most famous beaches.
As part of a government healthy eating initiative, healthy snacks will be handed out to beachgoers on the Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca and the Balearic islands, Euro Weekly News reports.
People in the tourist hotspots of Alicante and Malaga will be among those that could benefit, along with visitors to La Coruna and Ibiza.
A leaflet will accompany the complimentary snacks, providing information on the full nutritional benefits of fruit.
According to figures cited by Euro Weekly News, fruit consumption increased by five per cent in Spain in 2007 but still only accounted for around 15 per cent of all food consumed throughout the year.
While tourism may be one of Spain's most high-profile industries, the country is also one of Europe's leading exporters of fruit, growing oranges, mandarins, grapefruit, lemons, limes and more.
