Spanish councillors support relaunch of tourist train |
People enjoying villa holidays on the Costa Blanca could soon be able to make use of a tourist train service if the proposals of local councillors come to fruition.
Members of the Diputacion de Alicante have called for the relaunch of a rail connection between Denia and Benidorm that passed along inland mountain passes, Euro Weekly News reports.
The Lemon Express was so called because it used to take passengers on journeys through picturesque lemon groves.
Another perk of the service, which was suspended in 2005, was a free glass of cava for everyone on the day return journey from Denia to Benidorm.
According to the Alicante councillors, it is possible for the Lemon Express route to be relaunched as there are two trains and four carriages available with the capacity to carry up to 200 passengers in total.
The officials said that the train could be a unique selling point for the region and could encourage more people to take villa holidays and other trips to the Costa Blanca.
