Spanish hotspots prove popular from Luton |
People embarking on villa holidays on the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca were among those who contributed to a rise in passenger numbers at London Luton airport in July.
The busy summer getaway period near the end of the month, which was sparked by school terms coming to an end across the UK, saw some 145,000 people travelling through Luton.
This represents an increase of five per cent on the same period in 2007, Travel Weekly reports.
Mainland Spain and the Balearic islands were the busiest regions from Luton airport, with the popular villa holiday destinations of Malaga and Alicante the strongest performers.
Larnaca and Paphos in Cyprus also saw strong demand from people travelling through the gateway north of London, as did holiday hubs in Turkey and Egypt.
Other popular holiday locations in Luton airport's flight network include Pisa and Rome in Italy; Nice, Bordeaux and Brest in France; and Girona and Barcelona in Spain.
