Stunning sculptures on Algarve beaches |
People on villa holidays in the Algarve this summer will be entertained by more than the usual sights on the beaches of Pera.
The town will host Fiesa, an international sand sculpture festival, until October 22nd this year.
This festival is the only event of its kind on the Iberian peninsula and the world's largest celebration of sand sculpture.
Every year the event spreads over an area of 15,000 square metres and showcases the work of a number of international artists, who use more than 35,000 tonnes of sand for their creations.
Each festival also takes on a different theme relating to various nationalities, cultures and periods of history.
At night Fiesa hosts live music, theatre, dance and circus shows, while people on villa holidays who have a creative streak will be able to visit an area reserved for people to build their own sand sculptures.
