Travellers 'value face-to-face advice' |
Many people planning villa holidays and other trips around the world attach a lot of importance to face-to-face recommendations, according to research.
Some 1,400 people who had been on holiday in the past five years were surveyed by Mintel and 34 per cent said they had researched their trip by speaking to people they knew.
This compares to 25 per cent of respondents who said they consulted travel agents for advice when deciding on their holiday, reports Travel Weekly.
Of the 828 people polled by Mintel who said they had used the internet to plan or book their trip, a quarter had looked at pictures or videos online.
Another 27 per cent of the people surveyed said they had made use of 'Web 2.0' facilities such as blogs and user reviews.
Adoption of these online services has become "really strong", according to Mintel travel analyst Richard Cope.
The research found that foreign holidays account for 70 per cent of the travel market, suggesting that people are still determined to go overseas regularly despite the squeeze on credit and disposable income in the UK.
