Villa holidays now more accessible from Birmingham |
Travellers based in the West Midlands may find it easier to embark on villa holidays this year after Ryanair opened its 25th base in Birmingham and announced nine new routes.
The low-fares airline will launch its new services, which include connections to the popular Spanish destinations of Alicante, Malaga and Murcia, in October 2008.
Peter Vella, business development director at Birmingham, said the airport was "delighted" to become Ryanair's 25th base and welcomed the new flight announcements.
"These new services will offer passengers travelling from their local airport even greater choice and flexibility, allowing them to travel from within their region - whether that be for leisure or business," he added.
Ryanair claims that it will offer a substantial boost to Birmingham, delivering five million passengers a year by 2012, who will sustain 5,000 jobs and spend some £400 million.
Ryanair flies to a number of destinations that are popular with people planning villa holidays, including Faro in the Algarve, Nice, Pisa and Rome.
