Women 'more confident travelling solo' |
The ongoing expansion of the travel industry has led to an increasing number of women feeling confident to travel alone, it has been claimed.
Kristina Pentland, communications manager for responsibletravel.com, a company that sets out to promote tourism that helps the environment and local communities, said that travelling alone can often lead to new opportunities and experiences.
Ms Pentland claimed that taking villa holidays and other types of trip alone can be a very fulfilling pursuit.
"Women have become more confident to travel alone and this is great to see. Solo travel can be incredibly rewarding," she said.
"You don't have to be backpacking to be a solo traveller. We find a large number of solo female travellers join small group adventure trips for example, where you'll meet other people with similar interests and outlooks to you."
Ms Pentland had some advice to people taking villa holidays or otherwise travelling alone, saying that it is often a good idea to do some research and read up on destinations before setting off.
"Read up as much as possible before you go, on local customs and cultures and learn some words of the language too," she said. "You'll feel better equipped to deal with situations that you find yourself in."
