Work on new Cyprus highway to begin next year
People on villa holidays in Cyprus will be given easier access to new destinations on the island in the future following the construction of a new road.

Communications minister Nikos Nikolaides announced that work on a highway linking Paphos to Polis Chrysochous is set to start in mid-2009, the Cyprus Mail reports.

He said that the new road will come at a cost of around €40 million (£31 million).

Commenting on the details of the development, Mr Nikolaides said: "The main highway will be 30.5 kilometres long and the construction includes byroads from Polis Chrysochous to Pomos and Latchi, as well as a connection to Mesogi around eight kilometres long."

A budget has been allocated to infrastructure developments that could lead to a number of benefits for people on villa holidays in Cyprus who are exploring the island by car.

These include connecting roads between the communities of Platres and Prodromos, Limassol and Agros and others.
